Birding in Mato Grosso and Brazil

Birdfinding information and guided tours in Amazonia and beyond

Latest updates:
July 4th: I spent a productive week with Alan Davies and Ruth Miller of The Biggest Twitch (www.thebiggesttwitch.com) at Cristalino Jungle Lodge and around Alta Floresta. The two will visit some 30 countries in their quest to break the world year list record - follow the progress on their blog at the web address above!

June 1st:
Another trip report is up.

May 26th:
Just back from the Rio Azul where we added another 20 species to the site list including Pompadour Cotinga, Spotted and Striolated Puffbird and the campinarana race of Fuscous Flycatcher (certain to be split in the future). The Hyacinth Macaws showed well and I managed to photograph a parade of jacamars. Off again today to visit Fazenda Natureza on the lower Rio Juruena, but some more dates are up on the tours page.

May 6th:
Two new departures on the Tours page, including another for the Rio Azul in November and a new tour for 2009, the Brazilian south in April. The interest that has been shown to date in the Rio Azul has been an encouraging sign for the further development of birding tourism in Mato Grosso. I spent most of April in the south and was, as usual, impressed with how good the birding is. Thus inspired, we decided to go ahead and offer a trip for next year. A report will soon follow...

March 22nd:
'Birding sites' updated with a section on the state of Goiás and Parque Nacional das Emas.

February 26th:
Added to the trip reports page, a report from Colombia 2007 (admittedly outside the scope of the site, but it was a good trip) and another short report from the Fiery-tailed Awlbill twitch of 2006.

February 2nd: Welcome to Birding in Mato Grosso, a website dedicated to birding and birdfinding in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso and neighbouring sites in central Brazil.  The website has a new address now: http://www.birdingmatogrosso.com

Please check back frequently as the site will be under constant construction throughout the next few months. Keep an eye open for new site info, trip reports, and tour offerings... and maybe even a photo or two.

Thanks for stopping by,

Brad
