Birding in Mato Grosso and Brazil

Birdfinding information and guided tours in Amazonia and beyond

Noronha Vireo, Vireo gracilirostris - January 2008

Sounds:

At the moment a selection of my sound recordings are available for listening and download at xeno-canto, an excellent online database of bird songs from throughout the Americas. Here is a direct link to my recordings online.

I have recorded bird song using both analog tape recorders (Marantz 222 and Sony TCM5000) and minidisk (Sony Hi-MD). I now use the Marantz PMD-660, a digital CF recorder which I am generally pleased with. All of my recordings are made using a Sennheiser ME-67 long shotgun microphone. No complaints there.

I am in the process of preparing my Amazonian recordings for archival in the Bird Collection of the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia (INPA) for inclusion in their database project to create biogeographically accurate distribution maps for Amazonian birds (see Bechtoldt and Cohn-Haft, p.232).
