Birding Mato Grosso was founded in 2008 by Bradley Davis as a vehicle to foment and facilitate birdwatching tourism to the state of Mato Grosso in central-west Brazil. The original goal was to create a website which compiles birdfinding information valuable to the visiting birder. Information aimed at independent travelers, in addition to profiles of birding sites and interesting lodges - both famous and unknowns - was the original content.
At the same time, birders from Canada and the United States had already begun to contact Bradley about customized birding tours to Mato Grosso. Bradley has been guiding birders since January 2004, and organized and guided his first birding tour to Brazil in November 2005. As demand for private birding tours to central Brazil has grown, so too has the prominence of our offered set departure trips. Take a look at the tour itineraries linked in the menu sidebar found on every page of this site to see if something interests you, or to get an idea for an unforgettable custom tour. Interested in a location not mentioned in the tour itineraries? Send us an email with your trip ideas - we have experience in all corners of this vast country, and if we can't put together the trip you want, we'll get you in touch with somebody who can!
Are you planning to visit central Brazil? If so, please feel to write Birding Mato Grosso if you have any questions, doubts, or other concerns about the region. While Birding Mato Grosso is a commercial operation specializing in customized birding and natural history tour to the region, its owner is committed to showcasing his home state and its mega-diversity. If the only question you need answered is about the weather, a hotel near the airport, or whether one of the eagle nests (Harpy and Ornate Hawk-) is currently occupied, we'll still be very happy to help!
